Requirements to Chair:

Anyone can chair a Key Chat meeting. The only requirement that you need to meet in order to chair a chat meeting is that you be a member of Key to Harmony!

KEYRoom Chair Instructions

Before your meeting, please read over our guidelines based on our group conscience.

Chairing at a Chat meeting is not much different than chairing a face-to-face Al Anon meeting. The only real difference is that you type your share, rather than speak it!

If you wish you may use all or just part of the suggested opening and closing text provided for your convenience next to the KEYRoom window. Click for Opening and Closing Text links; they will open in a new browser window. Simply copy and paste the opening or closing line by line into the KEYRoom window. It's easy!

If you are not comfortable with copying, or don't wish to use our suggested opening or closing, you don't have to. You may simply open and/or close the meeting with the Serenity prayer, or however you like.

It is customary to ask someone from the group of attendees to "greet" latecomers. This allows you to focus on your sharing, and calling on others to share, while your greeter sends a private greeting to the newcomer, informing he or she of the meeting topic and answering any questions to get the latecomer settled in.

After you open the meeting, and share on the topic that you have chosen, you may ask for shares from the group. Simply call on members in turn, as they raise their hands with an "!".

To close, you may cut and paste the suggested closing, if you wish.

Credit where Credit is Due

The only hard and fast rule that we have for chairing a meeting in the Key KEYRoom is that you stick to the Al Anon WSO's contract with us regarding their copyright.

The WSO has given us permission to quote one paragraph of Conference Approved Literature in our email and chat meeting shares. In exchange for that permission, we are required to include the following credits each and every time any CAL is quoted:

From [ Name of Book], page______ copyright 19____ by Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc.; limited use by express written permission of Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc.
